The Na Language
Resources
  • Danay et al's (1986) Dictionnaire Sara-Kab-Na - Francais contains approximately 2,800 words and approximately 1,000 idioms, but very few sample sentences. The work is not up to CCL's normal high standards: the category (part of speech) for words is not included, and there are a number of quality issues (words not in alphabetical order, duplicate entries in different parts of the dictionary, etc.) There is also a tendency in the work to list expressions as words.
  • According to the Ethnologue, the New Testament for Na was completed in 1988.
  • Mari Marianne's (2012) Enquete sociolinguistique de la langue Koulfa du Tchad concludes that Na forms a dialect group with Mbanga, Dindje and Tie.
Current Work
The Sara-Bagirmi Language Project has now completed a dictionary of the Na language with over 3180 words, 4040 sample sentences and 720 idiomatic expressions. The research was completed in N'djamena during the summers of 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 working principally with Kode Koutou. The work also includes a 65 introduction to Na Phonology, Morphology and Syntax, written in English. This work is available as a free download at Dictionary of Na: Na-French, French-Na, With English Introduction. The work has also been published with Morkeg Books using CreateSpace.com, and is available for purchase at:

The Kaba Na Sound Dictionary allows you to page through the Kaba Na dictionary entries and listen to the words and sentences. However, we are missing sample sentences for many of the words.
